Cattl especially for milk production has been kept on a zero grazing unit now for a number of years,
this is because of the many advantages of zero grazing compared to free range or any other method of keeping animals .
Above is a simple Zero Grazing 3d plan that is sited on a 9m x7.5m .
there are many consideration and precautions considered in construction of the zero grazing unit, for which are clearly indicated in the photo above.
However, i cant skip talikng abouut
- The slanting of the unit floor which is about 3% towards the trench.
- The crush not to be forgoten ,as many farmers forget it , yet they lack the milking parlour too.
- Ensuring that animals feed troughs are big enough especially for water
- The floor should not be slipery.
- Proper stall size (the lay out design has the standard dimmensions)
What happens when a zero grazing unit is poorly constructed?
- Animals are not comfortable so they will not produce as required.
- Animals diseases may rise up due to the poor design
- cleaning of the facility becomes hard.
- The structure can easily be spoilt by the animals
- spoilage of the feeds and hence a loss to the farmer.
Therefore , ensure a good structure design to avoid loses
